The Rs 1,600-crore face wash market in India is increasingly dominated by the zit and acne-removal category offering spotless looks, while the fairness segment is struggling to keep pace, reports Richa Maheshwari from Bengaluru. The pimple-removal segment now accounts for one-third of the overall market, and it has seen as many as three dozen brand launches since 2012.
"While there were always products available for pimple removal, consumer awareness has increased manifold and so have brand launches," said Rajesh Krishnamurthy, business head for consumer product division at Himalaya Drug Company, makers of Himalaya Herbals, the leading brand in this category.
