Electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy said that it has tied up with Bharat FIH, Foxconn unit, to source various components for its vehicles.

These include printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies for battery management systems, dashboard assembly, peripheral controlling units and drive control modules, as per a statement from the company. The entire supply chain and logistics for these components will be managed by Bharat FIH and it has already begun manufacturing these.

Earlier, the components were supplied Sanmina Corporation.

“We are working towards strengthening our supply chain to cater to the rising demand for our scooters,” Tarun Mehta, the chief executive officer of Ather Energy said in a press statement. “Towards this, we are delighted to partner with Bharat FIH to provide us with the capacity, supply chain capability, and process expertise to achieve our volumes and projections.”

The partnership also reflects that large auto component manufacturers today see an opportunity in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, Mehta said. EV manufacturers have struggled with sourcing components given their lower volume and the lack of interest from larger suppliers. However, the situation is now improving.

Ather sold 2,042 scooters in February, up 140% year-on-year.
