ET Recommendations: Here's why you should buy Syska LED Smartlight

    Synopsis

The company advertises 3 million colour combinations but that’s obviously a stretch — in practice, you should be able to see about 20 to 30 distinct shades.

Colours affect your mood. Which means you might be able to alter your mood by changing the colours you see. The easiest way to do that is with a colour-changing bulb. Pune-based Syska offers a smart LED bulb that’s controlled over Bluetooth, via an Android or iOS app. Unlike some of the others, Syska’s bulb uses a B22 "bayonet" type base — this is the most common type of holder that Indian homes have, so it should easily fit into most of the lamps and fittings you already have without using any adapters.

As far as some of the basic specs go, it has a power consumption of 7 watts and produces about 480 lumens at its brightest setting. It has a 10 metre Bluetooth range and a lifespan of 25,000 hours. There are a bunch of LEDs inside in the primary colours — the bulb intelligently mixes those colours to create all the different colours of the rainbow. The company advertises 3 million colour combinations but that’s obviously a stretch — in practice, you should be able to see about 20 to 30 distinct shades.

Once you pair the bulb over Bluetooth and download the app, you’ll be able to choose colours and set brightness. But there are many extras built into the app. You can set schedules, day-night timings, have it pulse in time to music or have it "breathe" or flash in different colours. Finally, there are a bunch of games built into the app: the bulb colour will change, corresponding to the colour of the object in the game. The game bit is mostly superfluous but the bulb itself works quite well.

Pixel Super Heroes (Game for Android, get it for free)
As the name suggests, this game uses pixellated graphics to add a retro touch to the overall gaming experience. It is essentially an action running game — you control a superhero character running along the rooftops of a city. As you progress through the level, you collect coins and various powers. Instead of earning lives or armour, the game gives you an additional superhero character that runs behind your main character (as a kind of backup). In case the main character dies, the secondary superhero takes his place and keeps running.

There are various enemies in the level that your superhero just punches through, but you'll have to jump over various obstacles to avoid damage. There are daily challenges that you need to achieve in order to earn additional coins. Additional superhero characters are available — these can be unlocked via in-app purchase. Sound effects are similar to retro games and match the overall graphics. All in all, a fun game if you are looking for something to pass your time.

Artisto (App for Android and iOS, get it for free)

Prisma got catapulted into instant fame almost overnight. It reached the top charts for both iOS and Android app stores, thanks to its unique photo filters. Artisto is to videos what Prisma is to photos. It is a free app that lets you capture a 10-second video and then offers various art filters that you can apply over it. We tried the app on a Redmi 3S Prime with 3GB RAM — it took about 10 seconds to apply a filter on a 10-second video.

Like with photos, you will need to see which filter works best for your particular video. Once you finalise on one, you can then share the edited video in your social networks or just save it to the phone's gallery. You'll find a lot of photo editing apps for Android but if you want to jazz up your videos using filters, Artisto is one of the few good apps that works really well.
