'Ponniyin Selvan 2', based on author Kalki Krishnamurthy's hugely popular 1955 Tamil novels of the same name, the film stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipala and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles.

The period action drama tells the story of the early days of Arulmozhivarman (Jayam Ravi), one of the most powerful kings in the south who went on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I. The film series is considered one of the most expensive movies to be ever made with a reported budget of Rs 500 crore.

The first part of the epic saga which was co-produced by Madras Talkies and A Subaskaran's Lyca Productions, released in September 2022.

Meanwhile, the lead actor of the film called each character in 'Ponniyin Selvan' "a hero", adding that the big actors, who played these roles, made a decision to put craft above their on-screen personas.

"When you go to a set, you have your aura, big or small hero, and everybody responds to you that way, unless you are a new face. So, the way you are treated you take that for granted. But when you have a film like this, everybody here is a hero or heroine. Then there is Mani sir, who is the master craftsman, (so) when we went there, we all forgot that image," the actor told PTI in an interview.
