Old habits are difficult to shed. An avid golfer, the CEO of Tech Mahindra, CP Gurnani, made the admission to a business magazine that professional commitments had kept him from teeing off for the better part of a decade. For much of his life, Gurnani was a fixture at Noida’s golf courses, devoting nearly six hours to the sport on Sundays.

“My ideal Sunday is to tee off in the darkness, be back at 10 am and spend the day with the family,” he said.

However, in 2009, when Gurnani was tasked with charting the blueprint of the company’s turnaround plan after it acquired a controlling stake in Satyam Computing Systems, golfing took a back seat.

“I told my family I would be busier than ever,” he said.
