J&K: 2 LeT terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in Kulgam
The security forces on Sunday killed two militants including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander from Pakistan, Haider, who was active in Kashmir for over two years now. The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the encounter took place in Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam in southern Kashmir, where Haider along with another militant, Shahbaz Shah of Kulgam, were killed.

The operation was conducted following a tipoff received by the police regarding the presence of militants in the area. J&K Police, along with 9 RR of the army, launched a joint cordon and search operation, during which, officials said, militants opened fire triggering an encounter. Later, a CRPF team also joined the operation.

As per police, Haider was a militant who was active for more than two years in north Kashmir and had recently shifted his base to south Kashmir.

"Haider was part of groups involved in several terror crimes, civilian atrocities and various killings including the killings of police personnel Mohammad Sultan and Fayaz Ahmad in November last year in Bandipora," read a police statement. Police claimed he was involved in another attack in Bandipora in which special police officer, Zubair Ahmad, was killed and four other security forces personnel were injured.

"This operation is a big success and I congratulate the joint team for conducting a successful operation," said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police in Kashmir.
