Miami judge quashes Florida's governor Ron DeSantis-hyped voter fraud case

A Miami judge on Friday rejected one of the 19 voting fraud indictments that Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, had publicly bragged about. This is an important event as the cases come under further scrutiny.

Robert Lee Wood, a 56-year-old Miami resident, who registered to vote in 2020 and cast a ballot in the presidential election last year, was the subject of the lawsuit on Friday.

State authorities charged Wood after they claimed he registered and cast his ballot despite being ineligible. Wood claimed he was unaware that he was ineligible since he had been found guilty in 1991.

He signed up in 2020 after being approached by a canvasser, and the state mailed him a voter registration card.

For allegedly casting an unlawful ballot in the 2020 election, Wood could have received up to $5,000 in fines and costs and five years in prison.
