    Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on this day in 1991 in a suicide bomb attack by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during an election rally at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
    AMETHI (UP): Congress leaders here today paid tributes to Bharat Ratna awardee and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 26th death anniversary at the party office in Gauriganj.

    The programme was attended by Chandra Kant Dubey, the representative of Congress vice president and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi along with MLC Dipak Singh, the party's district unit chief Yogendra Mishra among others.

    Congress activists highlighted Gandhi's contribution to transform the country as modern India by introducing the use of computers.

    Some party leaders also donated blood at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital at Munshiganj to commemorate the occasion. Gandhi has also represented the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in Parliament from 1980 to 1991.
