AMARAVATI: These days one doesn't have to rack his or her brains to name a business entity in Andhra Pradesh. Amaravati seems to be the singular choice.

Ever since the Chandrababu Naidu government officially named the capital city 19 months ago, the one name that readily comes to the mind is Amaravati.

Right from government schemes to hotels, restaurants, curry points, medical shops, real estate ventures, cab services, security agencies to commercial establishments, everything is Amaravati. Close to 200 establishments in Vijayawada and Guntur — both big and small — have named their commercial enterprises Amaravati in the last couple of months.

"This is our way of showing support to the new capital. When a capital of global standards is being built, this is the least we could do," said Ravindra Raju of Amaravati Chess Academy, Guntur.

While some named their businesses after Amaravati with a sense of local pride, others are cashing in on the newfound craze. What more, this trend is not just confined to Vijayawada and Guntur cities. People from towns like Machilipatnam, Nandigama and peripheral villages and towns are also using the name to their advantage.

“We set up our business on a small scale. To be honest, the name Amaravati will definitely help us. That is the reason we named it after the capital,“ said M Surya, who runs Amaravati curry point near Machilipatnam.
