    Lockdown in Guwahati extended till July 19

    Assam health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that health department had sought extension of total lockdown in Guwahati by one week.

    The health minister added that in Guwahati around one lakh test is done. “The positivity rate has declined from 30 percent to 16 percent. The average positivity rate is 21 percent. COVID is very active in Guwahati. “
    Assam chief secretary, Kumar Sanjay Krishna tweeted, “Due to the continuing large scale spread of Covid19 occurring in almost the entire district of Kamrup(M),there has been an extension in the period of the prevailing lockdown. Here are the new guidelines that shall come into force with effect from 12th July till 19th July,2020”.

    Assam health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that health department had sought extension of total lockdown in Guwahati by one week.

    State government had on Friday held discussion with Citizens committee of Guwahati which proposed two week extension of lockdown.

    Sarma said, “We have suggested to government to extend lockdown by one week that will suffice our requirement. “

    The health minister said that after one week of lockdown, there can be a restricted opening of shops and business.

    Guwahati is under 14 day lockdown which will end on July 12. Sarma said, “Assam has done 5, 25, 485 tests and positivity rate is 2.96 percent. Per million test in Assam stands at 15, 744. Assam is next to Andra Pradesh , Tamil Nadu and Delhi in per million test.”

    The health minister added that in Guwahati around one lakh test is done. “The positivity rate has declined from 30 percent to 16 percent. The average positivity rate is 21 percent. COVID is very active in Guwahati. “

    Sarma said, “We have not favoured home isolation for three generation lives together in a home in Assam. However Assam health department has allowed home isolation for a patient if gets clearance from the neighbourhood and does not have aged parents, has a doctor with whom he can interact every three hours, possess pulse oximeter besides having a vehicle facility. The person has to give us undertaking. Following the person meeting all these condition s we may allow.”

    The minister said that for those coming to state by airline now after antigen test if negative may go for 14 day home quarantine. “Assam will operate a dedicated COVID care centre for pregnant women and child below 12 years. For Geriatrics person infected with COVID a separate facility will be created. “
