    One arrested in connection with Indian student's murder in UK

    British police have arrested one person in connection with the brutal murder of a 23-year-old Indian student at her hostel in the University of Wolverhampton.

    LONDON: British police have arrested one person in connection with the brutal murder of a 23-year-old Indian student at her hostel in the University of Wolverhampton.

    V Jyotirmayee Nagasaibabu, the Vijayawada-origin student had died of head injuries at Handsworth, a suburb of Birmingham, on Tuesday evening.

    The West Midlands Police spokesman said that the unidentified man, 24, was arrested on suspicion of the murder and was currently helping the police with their enquiries.

    Jyotirmayee, who was enrolled on a postgraduate degree in Health Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton, was based in the Handsworth area of Birmingham, 11 miles from her campus at Wolverhampton.

    A West Midlands Police spokesman told that the post mortem examination on Jyotirmayee's body was conducted yesterday, which established that she died as a result of head injuries.

    A man, also reported to be an Indian student, was found with serious injuries in the house where Jyotirmayeee lived when the police were called on Tuesday evening. He was said to be in a stable condition in the City Hospital.

    The cause of Jyotirmayee's death or injuries to the man has not been revealed but the police have initiated house-to-house inquiries at the scene.

    The police said that forensic tests were carried out at the premises.

    This is the second incident of murder involving an Indian in the Birmingham area within the last three years.
