MUMBAI: There might be some respite for the five Congress MLAs who were suspended for two years from the Maharashtra assembly after they allegedly manhandled Maharashtra governor C Vidyasagar Rao on November 12 last month. An all-party member committee that was probing the incident is now going to meet the Governor to 'request him' to forgive the five Congress MLAs so that their suspension could be lifted.

The move came after Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil along with other members of the Committee that was formed to probe the incident approach the Speaker Haribhau Bagde and appealed to him to revoke the suspension of the MLAs.

The MLAs were suspended during the fracas after the Devendra Fadnavis government won the vote of confidence on November 12. It led to angry Congress MLAs gheraoing Governor C Vidyasagar Rao and preventing him from entering in to the state assembly premises. In the chaos that ensued, Rao allegedly suffered injuries on his right hand. Five of the MLAs were suspended and a committee was formed to probe the incident as there were hints that there could be more suspensions in the offing.
