Synopsis

India’s steel and aluminium exports to the EU will face extra scrutiny under the CBAM regime starting October 1. Companies will have to pay carbon tax from January 2026. Tata Steel, one of the biggest players in the sector, is diversifying its steel production technologies to align with the sustainable targets across Netherlands, the UK, and India.

Tata Steel CEO and managing director T V Narendran’s address to the investors on the last day of 2022 gave out a clear clue on how the company was shaping its sustainability drive amid the clamour in the European Union (EU) in favour of ‘carbon tax’.
