Synopsis

After an unprecedented funding boom last year, M&A activity seems to be driving deal volumes in 2022. Among sectors, IT and ITES, media, entertainment, and banking and financial services occupied the top spots in the first three months of the current calendar year. Experts believe that dealmaking will gather momentum once energy prices cool off and geopolitical tensions ease.

After setting a new record in deal volumes last year, consolidation seems to be the buzzword for 2022 in the Indian market. With cash-rich companies looking to gain critical mass through the inorganic route to further bolster their position in the market, mergers and acquisitions (M&As) worth USD11.3 billion were stitched up in the first three months of the current calendar year.
