A sanitation worker walks past a poster of actor Suriya Sivakumar from the movie Jai Bhim in Chennai on November 17, 2021.

Synopsis

Jai Bhim becomes No.1 on IMDb with a 9.4 rating. Based on a true story, the film deals with the sensitive topic of police brutality against the minority. The subject has resonated well with the masses, both here and internationally. It has also bagged the Golden Globe nomination. Will this encourage mainstream filmmakers to touch upon hard-hitting social issues?

“What is your caste?” The police officer asks while segregating suspects. That’s the only question asked throughout the process. Those who belong to higher castes are set free, while lower castes are charged. Things get worse, when the officer says, “We are giving you a lot of 12 people, take them before anyone comes to release them.” This is the first two minutes of TJ Gnanavel’s Tamil social drama Jai Bhim.
