Synopsis

With fast-moving private players from other countries scrambling for a share, Isro must accelerate its small satellite launch-vehicle programme and up its marketing game to retain its hard-earned advantage.

Isro needs to think small. From communication to weather monitoring to education and from remote sensing to military applications, when it comes to space, small is in. US-based aerospace company SpaceWorks Enterprises says annual nano- or micro-satellite launches have grown at an average of 40% a year since 2011, and will grow at 10% till 2023.
