Information Technology (IT) minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the main objective of IndiaAI is to bridge the gap between AI research and the real world to solve problems that people face on a daily basis.

The government approach will be investing in public platforms that offer access to computer power and high-quality data sets. “A common set of technical and legal frameworks is also available here. Startups, entrepreneurs, academics, and people working on various applications in sectors such as agriculture, medicine, healthcare, and education can use this common platform to accelerate their efforts,” the minister added.

The government underscored its active efforts to lay the groundwork for the Rs 10,000 crore IndiaAI Mission, which was announced a few months ago and is expected to be launched in the next two to three months.

Speaking at the event, Srinivas Narayanan, vice president of OpenAI, also reaffirmed the company's support for India's Rs 10,000-crore AI mission. He stated that the company considers India before making any major decisions.

Identifying the specific problem AI can address, Debjani Ghosh, president of technology industry body Nasscom said at the summit, “While AI is undoubtedly transformative, it is not magic. We humans will play a crucial role in making AI real. I believe we are well positioned to lead the era of applied AI with human centricity at its very heart,”

We reported on 3 July India has become the chair of Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), a major international initiative focused on responsible development and the use of AI.

Citing industry body Nasscom, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said 70% of Indian startups prioritise AI to drive their growth, thus underscoring the critical role of AI in the startup ecosystem. He added India must lead the AI revolution, not just participate.

At the global IndiaAI summit, Peak XV's managing director Anandan emphasised the abundant availability of capital and urged more entrepreneurs to venture into AI. Highlighting Peak XV's robust investment portfolio, he said the company has made over 25 AI investments till date.
