Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has invested an undisclosed amount in online parenting platform BabyChakra, a subsidiary of content-to-commerce conglomerate Good Glamm Group, the company said on Wednesday.

In an official statement, the Mumbai-based startup said Mirza’s investment will enable them to incorporate sustainable and clean care principles into their product offerings.

“We are excited to work closely with Dia as we grow our range of products and solutions for families across India,” Naiyya Saggi, group cofounder, Good Glamm Group and CEO, Good Community, said in the statement.

BabyChakra was acquired by direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand MyGlamm, a part of the Good Glamm Group, in 2021. MyGlamm had then said it would invest Rs 100 crore over the next three years to bolster the platform’s growth.

Mirza’s investment comes at a pivotal moment, as it highlights the growing trend of celebrities, both from Bollywood and sports, showing keen interest in emerging startups and D2C brands. This trend continues to gather momentum despite funding challenges facing the Indian startup ecosystem, which has seen a decrease in venture capital investments due to various macroeconomic headwinds.

Other celebrities have also ventured into the startup landscape recently. ET reported that actress Deepika Padukone’s investment office, Ka Enterprises, invested an undisclosed amount in Gurugram-based specialty coffee company Blue Tokai during a funding round.

Similarly, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has been appointed brand ambassador for Mumbai-based fresh food brand Pluckk, after acquiring a stake in the company. Also, mother and baby care brand Superbottoms recently secured $5 million in funding after partnering with actress Alia Bhatt.

Cricketers, too, have shown a strong interest in startups, with former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly investing in food delivery startup JustMyRoots, and Hardik Pandya backing kids’ footwear brand Aretto.

“I deeply resonate with BabyChakra’s community first mission to co-create the safest, cleanest label care for children. I will be closely working with the teams at BabyChakra to further champion the voice of sustainable care for families,” Mirza said, emphasising her deep connection with the platform’s mission.
