These festive sales typically start one month before Diwali and the flagship events are considered one of the biggest sales drivers for these ecommerce marketplaces.

Flipkart said around 375,000 sellers from across the country will participate in the sale events. The homegrown ecommerce company also said it had increased its credit line under the pay-later facility for consumers, to up to Rs 70,000 compared to Rs 10,000 earlier.

“Every year, The Big Billion Days marks the beginning of India’s festive season and each time we set out to deliver the best possible experience for all our consumers, sellers and brand partners. Over the past year, in collaboration with our ecosystem partners, we’ve worked towards creating opportunities that revitalize consumer sentiment in these challenging times and revive India's economic growth,” said Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart Group.

Amazon India said it had conducted a study of over 1,900 sellers through market research firm Nielsen and that more than 40% of those surveyed were expecting to grow their business by 50%, and that one in four sellers expected to double their business growth during the festive season sales this year. Of those surveyed, 78% were also planning to reach out to new consumers during the festive sales.

Sumit Sahay, director - selling partner services, Amazon India, said, “This festive season, we continue to strongly prioritize efforts to enable sellers to bounce back from the economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and accelerate their business growth. The findings from the study indicate that our efforts are aligned with the needs and expectations of the SMB sellers.”

This year’s events come amid a policy flux in the sector and a gradual recovery in sales following the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
