    Bharat Rice, Bharat Dal, more: How govt keeps your meal prices low

    In an effort provide relief to consumers in the wake of a 15% increase in retail prices for the grain over the previous year, the government on Tuesday introduced "Bharat rice" at a subsidised rate of Rs 29 per kg. Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal announced the launch of the subsidised rice, which will be sold in packs of 5 and 10 kgs. He stated that the government is working to make sure that everyday food items are accessible to the general public at reasonable prices.

    On National Consumers Day, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal claimed that the Central government has made various efforts to control the prices of foot items. ​​On steps taken by the central government, Goyal highlighted that 140 new price monitoring centres have been set up to keep a close watch on wholesale and retail prices of essential commodities.

    The government-led by PM Modi has officially introduced the sale of wheat flour, branded as 'Bharat Atta,' at a subsidized rate of Rs 27.50 per kg across the nation. This initiative will be facilitated through cooperatives like NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar, using 800 mobile vans and over 2,000 outlets from these agencies. The pricing of Bharat Atta is notably lower than the prevailing market rates, which range from Rs 36 to Rs 70 per kg. Additionally, the government plans to offer chana dal and onions at subsidized rates to combat rising prices.
