    Govt brings Bills on migrants, SCs, Tribals & OBCs in J&K

    The first bill aims to empower the lieutenant governor to nominate two members from the Kashmiri migrant community, including a woman, and one member from the displaced persons of PoJK to the assembly. The second and third bills pertain to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in J&K, with the aim of including the Valmiki community in the list of Scheduled Castes and revising the list of Scheduled Tribes in Jammu and Kashmir.

    Bill for nomination of 2 Kashmiri migrants, 1 displaced PoK resident to J-K assembly introduced in Lok Sabha

    A bill to nominate two members from the Kashmiri migrant community and one member from the displaced persons from Pakistan occupied Kashmir to the legislative assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The bill provides for representation of Kashmiri migrants, displaced persons, and Scheduled Tribes in the legislative assembly of Jammu and Kashmir to preserve their political rights as well as their overall social and economic development. The delimitation commission has recommended for representation of communities by way of nomination in the legislative assembly of Jammu and Kashmir.

    As per the records of registration available with the Relief and Migrant Commissioner, J&K, at present 43,618 registered Kashmiri migrant families are settled in Jammu, 19,338 families are settled in Delhi and NCR, and 1,995 families in a few other states and the UTs in the country, the report said. With a view to resettle Kashmiri migrants in the valley, the MHA has approved 3,000 jobs in the J&K government under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Package - 2008, and an additional 3,000 jobs under the Prime Minister's Development Package - 2015 (PMDP-2015).

    Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said as per the information provided by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, a total of 21,13,879 people have applied for domicile certificates.

    Centre approves Rs 2,000 crore package for POJK refugees

    The central assistance of Rs 2,000 crore would be given to 36,384 displaced families from POJK and Chhamb following an announcement of Prime Minister's Development Package for Jammu and Kashmir in November, 2015.
