    PUC Pollution certificate centres in Delhi may close next month as petrol pump owners threaten shutdown

    Petrol pump owners in Delhi may close Pollution Under Control (PUC) centres from July 1 due to unchanged fees since 2011, causing financial strain. The Delhi Petrol Traders’ Association (DPDA) stated that escalating costs and unmet requests for fee revisions rendered operations unsustainable. With 650 centres across Delhi, the closure could impact 80 lakh vehicles, risking increased pollution and fines for non-compliance.

    Vehicle owners seeking Pollution Under Check (PUC) certificates will now face a video scrutiny, as per recent guidelines. PUC centers at fuel stations are mandated to record a 10-second video during pollution assessments and upload it to the government's VAHAN portal. The move aims to address complaints of lax inspections leading to inaccurate certificates. Delhi is the first state to implement this measure, setting a precedent for other states and Union territories.
