Unhappy WFI to conduct fresh trials for World Qualifiers
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is concerned about the Indian men's team's performance at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers and has decided to hold fresh trials for the World Qualifiers. These trials will determine the team for the last chance to secure quota places for the Paris Olympic Games. India has earned only four quota places so far, all through women wrestlers. The WFI will conduct trials in 14 categories where quotas have not been secured. The World Qualifiers, starting May 9 in Turkey, will be more challenging than the Asian Qualifiers.

The Indian government has revised its guidelines on sports recruitment and promotion to include events of national importance and provide greater incentives to sports persons performing well. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued consolidated instructions on recruitment and promotion in October 2013. National championships, tournaments, national games, Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India Winter Games, and Khelo India Para Games are recognized as events of national importance.
