    The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has confirmed that trials will not be held to select wrestlers for the Paris Olympics 2024. Instead, the players who secured the Olympic quota will travel to Paris to represent the tricolour at the multi-sport extravaganza. This decision comes after media reports suggested trials could be conducted for the selection of wrestlers for the event. World Championships medalist Vinesh Phogat urged the WFI, Centre, and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to release the date, venue, and format for the trials.

India have earned six quota places for the Summer Games with five of them coming from women wrestlers. Aman Sehrawat is the lone male wrestler to lock quota in the men's freestyle 57kg category.

      Unhappy WFI to conduct fresh trials for World Qualifiers

      The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is concerned about the Indian men's team's performance at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers and has decided to hold fresh trials for the World Qualifiers. These trials will determine the team for the last chance to secure quota places for the Paris Olympic Games. India has earned only four quota places so far, all through women wrestlers. The WFI will conduct trials in 14 categories where quotas have not been secured. The World Qualifiers, starting May 9 in Turkey, will be more challenging than the Asian Qualifiers.

      The Indian government has revised its guidelines on sports recruitment and promotion to include events of national importance and provide greater incentives to sports persons performing well. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued consolidated instructions on recruitment and promotion in October 2013.
