    Former Mumbai Police 'encounter specialist' Pradeep Sharma has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Bombay High Court for his involvement in the fake encounter killing of Ramnarayan Gupta in 2006. This marks the first conviction of police officers in a fake encounter case in India. The court condemned the police officers' misconduct, stating that they had misused their position and emphasized the need to address deaths in police custody. Sharma, known for his efforts against the Mumbai underworld, has faced controversy and was dismissed from service in 2008 but later reinstated.
