    Industrialist and two-time MP Naveen Jindal had joined the BJP in March this year, ending his two decade long association with the Congress. He won from Kurukshetra in Haryana by a margin of over 29,000 votes. Jitin Prasada, Uttar Pradesh PWD minister and son of veteran Congress leader late Jitendra Prasada, had quit the Congress three years ago and joined the BJP. He was fielded from Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency in place of sitting MP Varun Gandhi and won by a margin of over 1.64 lakh votes.

    JMM going all out to win prestigious Santhal battle

    The Jharkhand election is focusing on the Santhal Pargana region, a pocket borough of the Soren family, as they aim to wrest Shibu Soren's eight-time seat from the BJP. The JMM-led opposition alliance is contesting three Lok Sabha seats in Santhal - Dumka, Rajmahal, and Godda - in the last phase of the polls on June 1. In 2019, the BJP won Dumka and Godda constituencies, while JMM won Rajmahal.

    Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Friday expelled Sita Soren, sister-in-law of jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, from the primary membership of the party for six years. The party also expelled its Borio legislator Lobin Hembrom, who filed his nomination to contest the Rajmahal Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate against sitting JMM MP Vijay Hansdak.
