    Uttarakhand CM Dhami withdraws decision of daily cap on Char Dham pilgrims

    The chief minister has decided to withdraw the decision to put a daily cap on the number of pilgrims visiting the temples, an order issued by Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi said. However, the system of online and offline registration for pilgrims coming on the yatra remains unchanged as it helps in tracking them, the order said.

    It faced a lot of flak from locals, but constructed a parallel bridge, Janaki Setu, almost a km away from the suspension bridge, facilitating safe passage between Tehri and Pauri districts. The state is also constructing another bridge, Bajrang Setu, next to Laxman Jhoola, which is likely to be operational next year. It will be made of toughened glass.

    Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has kept the charge of over two dozen departments to himself. These include home, industrial development (mining), justice, labour, excise, environment conservation and climate change, disaster management and rehabilitation and civil aviation.

    Eight MLAs were inducted as ministers in the new cabinet on Wednesday. There are two new faces -- Chandan Ram Das and Saurabh Bahuguna -- in the cabinet. The Speaker of the outgoing assembly Premchand Agarwal has been made a cabinet minister this time. Five of the eight ministers were part of the previous cabinet. Three Brahmins, three Thakurs (including CM Dhami), two SCs and one from the Vaishya community have found place in the new cabinet.
