    Congress releases 3rd list of Lok Sabha poll candidates; Adhir re-nominated from Berhampore

    Congress released 3rd list of 56 Lok Sabha candidates on Thursday. In its third list, the Congress declared candidates for two seats in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Gujarat, 17 in Karnataka, seven in Maharashtra, five in Rajasthan, five in Telangana, eight in West Bengal and one in Puducherry. Former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki has been fielded from Arunachal West. In Gujarat, the party has named Sonal Patel from Gandhinagar, Prabhaben Taviyad from Dahod (ST) and Nilesh Kumbani from Surat, among others.

    It would be incorrect to pass on the thoughts of strife that erupted during Partition onto the younger generation with respect to national and social unity, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar said on Sunday against the backdrop of a recent CBSE circular to schools on the issue. Pawar was speaking at the inauguration of a school in the presence of senior Congress leader Sushilkumar Shinde and state minister and BJP leader Chandrakant Patil.

    Congress explores formula for Karnataka hot seat

    After holding discussions with newly-elected Congress MLAs in Bengaluru, the party's three central observers met its president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence here on Monday evening and held deliberations over government formation in Karnataka. Sushilkumar Shinde, Jitendra Singh and Deepak Babaria met Kharge along with general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal and general secretary in-charge for Karnataka Randeep Surjewala.

    “The Congress Legislature Party unanimously resolves that the AICC President is hereby authorised to appoint the new Leader of the Congress Legislature Party,” read the resolution. The CLP met in the presence of three AICC observers led by former Maharashtra chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde and AICC general secretaries KC Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala.

    Karnataka: Legislature Party meet begins in Bengaluru, Sonia Gandhi may decide on new CM

    AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge, one source said, may share his inputs on the ground realities in Karnataka and leave the final decision to Sonia Gandhi. The CLP will meet again on Monday evening. A senior leader, probably one of the top contenders will propose the name of the new CM and others will second it. The swearing-in will follow on an auspicious day, depending on the beliefs of the new leader, the sources added.
