    Companies that come clean will soon get incentives under FAME-II

    The Indian government will provide subsidies to all-electric two-wheeler manufacturers that have passed ongoing investigations to promote the adoption of e-mobility and comply with local sourcing norms. Incentives worth up to ₹1,500 crore ($200m) have been stalled for a year since local sourcing anomalies were discovered. According to some electric vehicle officials, the delay led to a working capital shortage that retarded E2W industry growth.

    The subsidies are part of the ₹10,000-crore programme called FAME 2 ( Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles in India scheme Phase-2). The FAME-2 web site shows the status of subsidies for vehicles manufactured by these companies as "expired".

    SMEV Director General Sohinder Gill said sales for the nine months of the current FY23 ending December stood at around 5 lakh units and "there could be more than 20 per cent shortfall in the projections made by NITI Aayog of 1 million units for the full FY23".
