    The Tori-Shivpur third Rail Line located in Chatra and Latehar districts of the state is of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), which is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), the Ministry of Coal said. "This dedicated coal corridor, stretching over 44.37 km with six intermediate stations, is designed to facilitate the evacuation of 100 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of coal from ongoing and upcoming mining projects. With a capital outlay of Rs 894 crore, this project not only serves existing coal mines but also enhances the evacuation capacity from upcoming commercial blocks," it said.

    These new rail links are over and above the 13 'critical gap' projects flagged off with the Gati Shakti inter-ministerial coordination team. Team Gati Shakti is, in fact, looking at a whole gamut of issues related to the 2022 coal and power crisis. Work is in full swing to get the 13 'critical gap' projects- missing links in coal evacuation- moving. Five of the 13 critical gap projects are expected to be completed between March to May 2023, as per a recent round of Gati Shakti meetings.

    Coal handling plant and other first-mile connectivity projects will help in reducing turnaround time of wagons/rakes which is very important, the secretary said adding that commissioning of these 14 rail projects is pivotal for faster and efficient transportation of coal.

    The upcoming projects, some of which are already operational, would help CIL despatch increased volumes of coal through rail, above the existing capacity, from its greenfield and brownfield mining areas, Coal India (CIL) said in a statement.
