    Viability gap funding set to boost offshore wind energy space: Crisil

    The government's outlay, announced on June 19, includes Rs 6,853 crore for the installation and commissioning of 1 GW of offshore wind energy projects of 500 MW each off the coast of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. It also has Rs 600 crore for augmentation of two ports to meet the logistics requirements for offshore wind energy projects farms and encourage developers to enter this space.

    The Union Cabinet approved a viability gap funding (VGF) scheme for offshore wind energy projects with a total allocation of Rs 7,453 crore. This includes Rs 6,853 crore for installing and commissioning 1 GW of offshore wind projects, split into 500 MW each off Gujarat and Tamil Nadu coasts. Additionally, Rs 600 crore is earmarked for upgrading two ports to support logistics for these projects.

    The Union cabinet, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, approved significant decisions including a 5-11% increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for kharif crops, construction of a ₹76,220-crore port in Vadhavan, Maharashtra, and a revamp of Varanasi international airport. Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for offshore wind energy projects was also sanctioned, marking the beginning of the new government's 100-day agenda.

    India could bid out 1 GW of offshore wind capacity under the viability gap funding (VGF) scheme and issue guidelines for the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana within 100 days of the next government taking charge. The PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, launched on February 13 with an outlay of ₹75,021 crore, aims to solarise 10 million households. The scheme supports infrastructure projects that are economically justified but fall marginally short of financial viability.

    Regional airline FLY91 expects to have 350 staff in first year of operations

    The carrier's MD and CEO Manoj Chacko said there is no need to raise funds now, as it will also be getting Viability Gap Funding (VGF) under the regional air connectivity scheme UDAN. "We also have VGF for the sectors we have won. If we take all the sectors we have secured and if we operate the full schedule, then on an annualised basis, it will be around Rs 200 crore," he told PTI in a recent interview.

    The Cabinet has approved an additional allocation of Rs 1,164.53 crore for an industrial development scheme in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The funds will be used to meet the committed liabilities under the scheme until 2028-29. The scheme provides incentives to companies for investing in these states, including access to credit and insurance.
