Unveiling the link between common cold virus and serious blood clotting issue

Researchers have discovered a link between the adenovirus, which causes mild cold and flu symptoms, and blood clotting and low platelet levels in the body. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine and describes the story of a five-year-old boy and another patient who were both diagnosed with spontaneous HIT (heparin-induced thrombocytopenia) or VITT-like (vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia)-like disorders related to adenovirus infection. The research team is hopeful that their discoveries will help develop early detection and enhanced treatment approaches for this life-threatening condition.
