NTPC achieves 20 pc torrefied biomass co-firing at Tanda power plant

NTPC achieves 20% torrefied biomass co-firing at Tanda thermal plant, marking a milestone in India's power sector. Torrefied biomass, akin to coal, enables higher co-firing percentages without major modifications. NTPC aims for decarbonization, exploring biomass co-firing in existing and new coal power plants to reduce emissions and mitigate air pollution.

Mukesh Ambani expects to list Jio Financial Services soon

Ambani, following the legacy of his late father Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani, has used the annual investors’ gathering to announce big-bang projects and future growth plans. In the past, he has offered free shares and launched a new smartphone at effectively zero cost to users.

Goal is to provide affordable green hydrogen as alternative to traditional fuels; Jio Financial Services to offer simple solutions, says Mukesh Ambani

Reliance is among the largest global producers of grey hydrogen. The company has partnered with Denmark’s Stiesdal A/S to reduce costs and commercialise their Pressurised Alkaline Electrolyser technology. Meanwhile, Jio Financial, has been valued at around $20 billion after its shares were spun off last month.

After retail and telecom, Ambani casts eye on financial services, new energy business

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani aims to make his recently demerged Jio Financial Services the largest non-banking lender in India, according to Reliance Industries' latest annual report. The unit plans to leverage digital and retail businesses’ technological capabilities to democratically provide financial services to citizens. NTPC seeks startups to produce torrefied biomass pellets

Through its research and development wing NETRA, the NTPC intends to provide a platform to startups to enable them develop an advanced technology for producing torrefied biomass pellets that are well-suited for decentralised small-scale users.

NTPC top biomass user in India, consumes 58,000 MT, tenders 10.7 MMT: Power Ministry

Elaborating the progress of national biomass mission, SAMARTH (Sustainable Agrarian Mission on use of Agro Residue in Thermal Power Plants), the ministry said, among the state governments, Haryana State Genco has been able to co-fire around 550 MT of biomass in two of its stations and floated tenders worth 11 lakh metric tonnes.

    • View: Biomass co-firing can help India secure 50% energy from non-fossil sources by 2030

Biomass co-firing can account for integrating renewable energy in coal-based power plants. It can also become carbon neutral with appropriate harvesting, processing and transportation management. Unlike solar and wind, biomass firing does not require backup conventional capacity installation to meet increasing peak demand.

NTPC adopts sustainable measures to curb pollution

In the past fortnight, NTPC Dadri power plant has been co-firing close to 70-80 tons of agro-residue fuel along with coal. The power plant till date has received almost 2400 tonnes of non-torrefied biomass pellets from a large number of suppliers in Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. NTPC is in the process of procuring around 20,000 tonnes per day stubble.

NTPC to use biomass to co-fire coal-based power plants, cut emissions

NTPC plans to burn biomass like scrap lumber, forest debris, crop residues, manure and some types of waste residues along with coal to generate electricity.
