On Mani Ratnam’s 67th birthday, cinema enthusiasts across the country are in a celebratory mood to wish their favourite film-maker a happier year ahead.

As the Internet buzzes with warm birthday messages, veteran film star Kamal Haasan joined the growing list of well-wishers on Friday as he penned a heartfelt note for ‘doyen of Indian Cinema’.

The 68-year-old superstar took to microblogging platform Twitter to pen a birthday note for Ratnam who has given us super hits such as 'Alai Payuthey', 'Ok Kanmani', 'Dil Se', 'Bombay' and more.

Starting his birthday wish, Haasan said that if age could be calculated by the friends one has around them, then Ratnam was going to be much older today.

"If one were to count life by the happiness that they create around them and if age is calculated by the friends around you, my dear #ManiRatnam you are going to be a much older man today!" Haasan wrote on Twitter alongside a picture with the film-maker.

"A doyen of Indian Cinema who has touched the hearts of millions through his art and one who transformed dialogues into a lovely visual experience," the 'Chachi 420' actor added.

Haasan said the ace film-maker has repeatedly pushed the boundaries of cinema, "unmindful of the scale of challenge by constantly learning". "Today you are a master inspiring the next generation of filmmakers through whom your legacy shall reverberate perpetually.

"From Nayakan to #KH234, our journey together has been personally rewarding and enriching for me. Many more happy returns of the day and more to come my friend! #HappyBirthdayManiRatnam," Haasan wrote.

The two cinema legends in their own right are set to join hands for a new film that will mark their first project in 35 years since 1987's action-drama ‘Nayakan’.

The film, which is Haasan's 234th feature work, will be jointly produced by the actor's Raaj Kamal Films International, Ratnam's Madras Talkies and Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies.
