The CCUS Technology Expo last week provided a good venue to introduce the new SLB and Aker Carbon Capture Joint Venture to a wide audience. Most of the interest from the more than 8,000 participants was connected to the many projects that the joint venture already have in delivery, such as the Brevik CCS project, the Twence waste to energy project and the Kalunborg Hub project for Ørsted in cooperation with Microsoft and Northern Lights JV. Many people also visited the stand to see the large scale model of our most popular product in the US market, the Just Catch 400, a modular large scale carbon capture plant. - I am really pleased with the interest we have seen for the new joint venture, said Kristin Onarheim, Head of Advisory Services at SLB and Aker Carbon Capture Joint Venture.

Our brand-new second Mobile Test Unit (#MTU) is ready to set sail from Sola, Norway, to North America! For the first time in over a decade, SLB and Aker Carbon Capture Joint Venture is deploying an MTU in the United States. The MTU will mature more emitters and additional industry segments to reduce and remove CO2 through carbon capture 🌿 Since 2008, we have benefitted from deploying the MTU across a range of flue gases and locations, enabling process optimization for industrial size plants. “We’re excited about deploying our second MTU and are looking forward to the first test campaign in the pulp and paper segment. This journey is a result of Norwegian technology development over many years, which can now benefit emitters on a global level, meeting the need and rising demand from the market”, said Tove Ormevik, Director Delivery Functions & Aftermarket. The MTU will be first transported to Bremerhaven in Germany, where it will be shipped across the Atlantic. Thank you to Hitec Products AS and all other partners for a successful collaboration. Safe passage, MTU 2! 🚢 #ImpactAtScale #WeMakeCarbonCaptureHappen

“#CCS is a game changer when it comes to solving the climate challenge in industries that cannot be electrified”, says Nils Røkke, Executive Vice President Sustainability at SINTEF. “Aker Carbon Capture represents a technology that benefits society. They were early, probably too early. The market was not ready for them. They have persevered, and now there is a lot of trust in carbon capture and storage (CCS)," he points out. So, in all humility, it’s perhaps not a huge surprise that we have been nominated for this year’s Norwegian Tech Award! 😉 In relation to this award, Teknisk Ukeblad spoke to our Chief Operational Officer Erik Langholm at Brevik, where we are developing the world’s first large-scale #carboncapture plant at a cement facility. #WeMakeCarbonCaptureHappen Heidelberg Materials Sement Norge

Curious about how carbon dioxide removals enable CCS business cases in the United States today? 🌎 Carbon dioxide removals is gaining increased momentum worldwide as policymakers are looking to incentivize the industry. However, countries take different steps to facilitate the market. Check out the following blog by our Policy Advisor Nicolai Mykleby-Skaara to learn more about the US approach, stating that “The US government is demonstrating commitment to the CDR market by being one of the first high integrity CDR credit purchasers causing a ripple effect of offtakers that follow the DOE’s lead with instilled confidence, bolstered by a strong financial incentive through the 45Q stacked with CDR credit sales and business case predictability” Link below 👇
