Agartala:
Tripura govt on Wednesday clarified that as part of a temporary arrangement, state referral hospital IGM has allowed a West Bengal-based trust to run a proposed medical college here using its facilities.
The announcement follows opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury’s letter to CM Manik Saha, opposing the allocation of Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) hospital facilities to a private entity for the college.
Transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who is the spokesperson for Tripura govt, said a process is under way to approve the temporary use of the IGM building for setting up the proposed medical college following the guidelines of National Medical Council.
An MoU would be signed between the medical college authority and the state govt before allowing them to use the hospital.
Chowdhury said the state govt has completed the necessary paperwork to formalise the pact with the private entity, pending the visit of the National Medical Council (NMC) delegation to inspect the medical college’s infrastructure.
