Tripura trains over 3k officials in new criminal laws
Agartala: Tripura govt has so far imparted training to 3,010 people, including police and public prosecutors, in the three new criminal laws — Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam — which will come into force from July 1, law secretary Sanjay Bhattacharya said on Sunday.
At least 282 cops have also been trained to operate the updated Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems application.

Bhattacharya said instead of 511 sections of IPC, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has 358. Moreover, the community service system has been incorporated for six types of crimes. Seven new subjects of crime have been added to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023. As per Section 173 of the new criminal law, a citizen can now lodge an e-FIR with any police station other than the stipulated jurisdiction.
As per Section 530 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, all trials, investigations and proceedings can be done in electronic mode. Electronic remote representation of witnesses has been given credence under the new law. Electronic statements will also be considered as effective as written statements, the law secretary said.
