Theft marks first case registered under new criminal law in Agra
Agra: The first FIR under provisions of the new criminal code Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered for the theft at the Shamshabad police station on Monday, said officials. According to police, victim Bhuri Singh (45), a resident of Tola Tiwariya in Shamsabad block, alleged in his complaint that he was alone at home as his wife and children had gone to their maternal village.

Four burglars entered the house by cutting through the roof, tied up Bhuri Singh, stole cash and jewellery from the almirah, and forcibly took the keys around 1.45 am. SHO Shamshabad police station Veeresh Pal Giri said, “On the basis of the complaint received, a case has been registered under BNS section 305-A (theft in a human dwelling) and 331-4 (house-trespass or house-breaking after sunset and before sunrise). The crime scene was examined by the forensic team in the morning. Efforts are being made to arrest the accused men.” He added, “The new law emphasizes the collection of digital evidence, including video, at the time of arresting the accused.”TNN
