Lynched man now faces dacoity charges in UP's Aligarh

AGRA: Ten days after a mob allegedly lynched Mohammad Farid, 35, in Aligarh, an FIR was filed against him, his brother and five others Saturday. The FIR was registered under IPC sections 395 (dacoity) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman), reported.
In her complaint, the wife of textile trader Mukesh Chand Mittal, alleged that Farid, his brother Zaki and their aides carried out a dacoity at her house.She claimed that Farid threatened her at gunpoint, snatched her gold chain, and took Rs 2.5 lakh cash and jewellery from her.
DSP Rakesh Sisodia said, "On basis of the complaint, an FIR was filed against seven persons, including Farid, who died purportedly after being beaten by a mob, and two unknown persons. The matter is being investigated."
On June 18, Farid was beaten to death by a group of men who suspected him of theft. A purported video of the incident was circulated on social media. It showed the assault with sticks, sparking widespread outrage. The next day, police arrested six accused after registering an FIR against 10 named and a dozen unidentified people in connection with the lynching.
Following the incident, police claimed Farid was attacked after he was seen coming out of Mittal's house and running towards the gate. In his police complaint, Zaki claimed the group attacked Farid "only after they came to know about his religion".
Zaki told TOI Saturday: "An FIR was filed against my dead brother under pressure from politicians and right-wing functionaries to divert attention from his murder."
