Gandhinagar: Consul general of Japan in Mumbai, Yagi Koji, met with chief minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Tuesday to discuss potential investments by Japanese companies in
Gujarat. The focus was on sectors such as semiconductors, automobiles, renewable energy, green ammonia and infrastructure.
In another meeting, Thierry Mathou, the ambassador of France to India and Patrick Rata, the high commissioner of New Zealand to India, met with CM Patel to discuss investment opportunities for companies from their respective countries.
According to an official statement, Yagi Koji conveyed that Japanese companies are eager to invest in the semiconductor sector in the state. The CM assured that the Gujarat govt would speed up the finalization and allocation of land for these semiconductor companies. He also highlighted the significant role Japanese associations and companies have played in the success of past Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) editions, noting the strengthening economic ties between Japan and India.
According to an official statement, CM Patel and Thierry Mathou discussed potential investments in renewable energy, ports and the sports sector.
They also explored the possibility of establishing an educational complex in collaboration with France at GIFT City. Patel emphasized the opportunity to leverage the technical expertise of French companies in planning and executing Ahmedabad’s bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
In his discussion with Patrick Rata, CM Patel explored potential investments by New Zealand-based companies in agriculture, dairying, educational research and innovation. Patel assured that Gujarat govt would support New Zealand’s academic institutions in setting up establishments in GIFT City.
