Unrest in Kishangarh market over meat ‘thrown’ at shops
Ajmer: Police on Wednesday had to resort to cane-charge to disperse protesters after traders at a vegetable market in Kishangarh alleged a bike-borne man flung mutton pieces at shops in the market.
Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Archana Choudhary, however, said a man was carrying mutton on a bike and the box fell in the market, which triggered tensions.
“The pieces were collected and sent for testing; things are under control,” Choudhary said.
Till late in the evening, though, extra police force remained deployed in the area as well as on the Madanganj crossing nearby. Police said they were trying to identify the person on the motorcycle and would arrest him for disturbing the peace.
Earlier in the day, traders shut down the market and members of Hindu organisations joined street protests over the incident. SDM Choudhary along with district administration officials held a two-hour-long meeting with the market association, after which the market was opened on the condition that the man on the bike be arrested. tnn
