Prayagraj: In view of increasing passengers in
trains, the Indian Railways has decided to increase the number of general coaches in mail and express trains.
This will benefit 42 trains of North Central Railway (NCR) passing from Prayagraj.
At present over 730 mail-express trains pass through NCR. In these trains, which have only two general class coaches, the number will be doubled to four.
The Railway Board has issued a letter in this regard stating that that there will be additional production of 2500 general coaches which will benefit over 18 crore additional passengers every year.
Highlighting the railway's enhanced production capabilities, officials noted a significant increase from 555 LHB coaches in fiscal year 2014–15 to a targeted 7,151 coaches in 2023–24.
This fiscal year, the railway plans to produce a total of 8,692 coaches. In this, 50 Amrit Bharat trains (pull-push technology), 1600 Vande Bharat coaches will also be made.
After this, 1250 coaches will be added to mail trains and 2500 coaches to express trains. All these coaches will be ready in the current financial year and the process of installing them will begin, informed railway officials.
