MLN college students to get degree from Atal Univ
Prayagraj: Students studying medicine in Motilal Nehru Medical College will be awarded the degree of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University starting from next year. Till now the students of medical college used to receive their degrees from King George Medical University, Lucknow.
Dr Vatsala Mishra, officiating principal of MLN Medical College, said that two years ago the medical college was affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University.
Currently, examinations are conducted by this university. But from next year onwards, the final batch of the medical college will come out and it will get medical degree from Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University.
Motilal Nehru Medical College, spread over 101 acres, and having a hospital under it with the name, Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) hospital was established in 1961. Since its inception, the students of this medical college used to get a degree from Allahabad University but in 2008, the college was affiliated to King George Medical University, Lucknow.
Not only MBBS students, but MS students too will also get a degree from the new university, depending on their respective batches.
Every year, admission is done on 200 seats of MBBS in the medical college. After four annual examinations and internship, final degree is provided by the university. “Many medical colleges of the state have been affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University. Apart from many other advantages, this will further ensure an integrated system of medical curriculum and examination system,” opines Dr Santosh Singh, associate professor at the college.
