Wanted criminal injured, arrested in P’garh encounter
Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested in an encounter with police near Gajehari canal road under the limits of Mandhata police station of Pratapgarh district on Sunday night.
The arrested criminal was one of accused who had allegedly shot at a couple at Henze Parji village under the limits of Mandhata police station on June 29.
The injured criminal identified as Virendra Yadav alias Bachcha, a resident of Saray Harinarayan village, was admitted at district hospital for the treatment.
Cops have also seized one country made pistol of 0.32 bore along with three live and two used cartridges, one mobile and a bike on the spot.
Acting upon a tip off that a wanted criminal was moving towards Gajehari canal road, a joint team of SWAT and Mandhata police intercepted him and asked to surrender. The criminal opened fire on police party and was injured when cops retaliated.
The criminal suffered gunshot injuries in his legs. Police said the arrested criminal had a total of eight criminal cases registered against him in different police stations of UP and Maharashtra. He was wanted by Prayagraj and Nagpur police in connection with criminal cases.
Police also claimed that two persons including Bachacha Yadav and eight others were named in the FIR registered with Mandhata police station of Pratapgarh district in connection with June 29 couple assault case.
A group of 10 miscreants had opened fire on a couple at Henze Parji village and left them critically injured. The couple is undergoing treatment in Prayagraj.
