PATIALA: Three men died while two others injured after a long-standing land dispute escalated into a violent clash in Chatar Nagar village of Patiala district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Dilbag Singh (68), his son Jaswinder Singh Jassi(40), from Nogavan village, and Satwinder Singh, alias Satta of Chatar Nagar.
The injured, Harjinder Singh and Harpreet Singh, are currently receiving treatment at the Government Rajindra Hospital.

As per a police officer, the incident occurred around 8.30am when Dilbag Singh and his son Jaswinder Singh arrived in Chatar Nagar village, where they clashed with Satwinder Singh, and later with Harjinder Singh, and Harpreet Singh. The bone of contention was a 550-acre agricultural land in Chatar Nagar village, which both parties sought to lease.
The officer said that Dilbag Singh and Jaswinder Singh initially shot and killed Satwinder Singh. Subsequently, Satwinder Singh's accomplices, Harjinder Singh and Harpreet Singh, intervened and managed to snatch the weapons from Dilbag Singh and Jaswinder Singh. In a retaliatory act, they used the same weapons and also used spades to fatally kill Dilbag Singh and Jaswinder Singh. During the clash, Harpreet Singh and Harjinder Singh also sustained bullet injuries and were hospitalized.
"We are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the underlying causes of the dispute and ensure that justice is served impartially," the officer added.
