Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Ather Energy, an e-bike manufacturing company, has announced setting up of a manufacturing plant at Bidkin in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, ending a long wait for an anchor project at Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) node.
Local industry captains are upbeat over the maiden investment of around Rs 2,000 crore at DMIC through e-bike company.
Swapnil Jain, co-founder, Ather Energy, told the media on Saturday that the money has been deposited with state govt towards purchase of 100 acres of land at Bidkin for raising the plant for manufacturing family scooters.
“We have two e-bike manufacturing plants in Tamil Nadu. We were planning to shift our activities and chose Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for the new plant,” he said.
Jain said it would take around two years for commissioning of the new plant at Bidkin node of the DMIC. “Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar already has a strong presence of industries. The two-wheeler manufacturing here is also active. Besides, there will be ease in getting different government clearances at the AURIC,” he said. The Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) is a greenfield industrial smart city spread over 10,000 acres in Shendra-Bidkin node of DMIC here.
According to Ather Energy, its upcoming plant at Bidkin would produce around 10 lakh e-bikes per month and is expected to generate 4,000 jobs.
Dushyant Patil, the president of Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA), said the setting up of the new e-bike manufacturing plant at Bidkin would fill the void of an anchor project of DMIC.
“Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has a strategic location that offers connectivity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Mumbai and Nagpur, among other key places,” he said.
Maharashtra cabinet minister Atul Save said two more major firms were expected to invest at DMIC in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. “The e-bike plant at Bidkin will prove to be a game changer and provide impetus for industrial growth,” he said.
