Bareilly: A three-year-old girl was recently tortured during an “exorcism” in the Padua area of Kheri, UP. The child was allegedly beaten with sticks and had her palms burned by a woman claiming to be an exorcist. The police have registered an FIR against the accused.
Sandeep Raj, a daily wage earner from Mijharia village, his wife Suman, and their daughter Maahi faced a terrifying ordeal.
Maahi had been unwell for several days, suffering frequent fits. Despite hospital treatment, her condition deteriorated, and after exhausting his funds, Sandeep brought her home. In desperation, they sought help at a temple in neighbouring Abhaypur village, where they encountered the exorcist.
Following the exorcism, Maahi fell unconscious and was rushed to a hospital. Suman recounted, “Wewere advised to visit a woman at a temple. The doctor diagnosed Maahi with brain fever. The exorcist convinced my husband our daughter was possessed by three demons.”
“She then performed rituals, burned cow dung cake in Maahi’s hand, and beat her when she cried. She fell unconscious, and the exorcist declared the rituals complete. We took Maahi to the district hospital. The doctors confirmed she had brain fever, not possession.,” Suman added.
