Wife plotted man’s murder: Cops

Rampur: With the arrest of three persons, police have solved the mystery behind the murder of a resident whose body was fished out of a pond in Chandupra villages. The murder was planned allegedly by the victim’s wife along with her lover, police claimed. The woman hired contract killers for Rs 20,000 to slay her husband. While her lover and two others were arrested, the woman is absconding and a hunt is on to nab her, police said.
According to police officers, on October 14, Lekhraj Singh of Tanda tehsil had lodged a missing complaint of his brother, Soraj Singh, at Tanda Kothwali police station. On October 24, Lekhraj Singh informed police that his brother’s body was found in a pond at Chandupra village.
After finding the body, local police lodged an FIR under IPC section 302 (Murder ) and 201 (Destroying of evidence) against the unidentified persons and started investigations. The post-mortem report revealed that Soraj Singh was strangled and then his body was thrown into the pond.
Speaking with TOI, superintendent of police Sanjeev Tyagi said, “The murder mystery of Saroj Singh has all the elements of love, sex and ‘dhokha’.” He added that the accused woman, Suman, was allegedly having an affair with her husband’s friend Anil, 28. The husband was aware about their growing intimacy. The husband opposed their relationship and even abused his wife. The woman retaliated by planning and executing Saroj’s murder.
Tyagi said with the help of informers and after tracing the mobile phone calls of the deceased’s wife Suman and Anil, police zeroed in on the accused. “During interrogation, Anil revealed the name of other co-accused, Mohan and Tikaram,” Tygai said.
On Saturday morning, police arrested the remaining accused persons Mohan and Tikaram from Milak Munddi village in Tanda tehsil.
“The duo revealed that Anil and Suman had hatched the conspiracy to murder Saroj Singh. As per the plan, Anil invited Saroj for drinks in a cane field, where all four consumed alcohol. When Saroj fell unconscious, Anil, Mohan and Tikaram strangled him and threw his body into a pond, “ said Tyagi.
According to police, they have now booked the accused under additional IPC section 120-B (Criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention). The trio has been sent to jail.
