BENGALURU: With controversies surrounding the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test 2024 results, the cry for publishing a state merit list for admissions to MBBS and BDS just got louder. The Karnataka Examinations Authority that oversees admissions has said while it cannot release a merit list, it can give a list of students in the descending order of ranks.

A state merit list will give the names of students from the state and their respective NEET ranks. It will give an indication to students on where they stand when it comes to landing an MBBS or a BDS seat.
"We cannot release a state merit list as it is not possible to reveal NEET ranks. However, we are willing to release the names of students in the descending order of ranks. This will help students assess their place in Karnataka. We need to get the data from the medical education department," said H Prasanna, executive director, KEA.
'Merit list will ensure fairness'
While states like Tamil Nadu release a merit list, the demand for a similar one in Karnataka has been on for several years. "The state merit list is foundational to the counselling process as it establishes the order of preference and choice for candidates seeking admission to MBBS programmes. It ensures fairness, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards, thereby contributing to a robust and merit-based admission process," said Raghavendra Hegde, founder of RH Chemistry, a YouTube channel, and RH medtech mentor counselling services. "A
KEA state list is critical for Karnataka students to have a clearer picture of their chances at securing a medical seat. A speedy release of the list will help calm our stressed children. It is the minimum we should do for them given the confusion and stress of NEET 2024," said Sridhar G, founder Deeksha.
With results of the 1,500 students who were given the option of a reexam announced on Sunday, the ranks changed marginally.
Comed-K schedule out
Comed-K has announced its schedule for round one counselling for engineering seats. The mock round of choice filling will start on July 5 and round one of choice filling will start on July 9.
