BENGALURU: Private engineering colleges are expected to seek a 10-15% increase in fees for the upcoming academic year. Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges’ Association (KUPECA) said it will meet the govt soon to discuss the consensual agreement.
“Last year, the hike was only 7%. With the seventh pay commission in place for faculty, it is difficult to meet expenses without a fee hike,” said Manjunath Bhandary, who is representing KUPECA.
Currently, the fee for CET seats in private colleges is Rs 96,574 for type-1 colleges and Rs 1,04,265 for type-2 ones. Colleges can choose which category they belong to depending upon their resources.
Last year, the BJP regime had agreed for a 10% increase in fees. After the Congress govt took over, it came down to 7% and a new consensual agreement was signed.
Private engineering colleges are expected to meet higher education officials soon.
