JABALPUR: Family members of Ashwini Kosta, one of the two techies killed in the horrific Pune Porsche crash of May 19, have expressed their anguish after Bombay high court ordered the 17-yearold accused to be released from juvenile detention.
“If something like this happens, it definitely hurts,” Ashwini’s brother told TOI.
A day earlier, the victims’ family members had met Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, who assured them of appropriate action.
Sampreet, who accompanied his father to Maharashtra, said, “He (the accused) is a criminal for us. We consider him a criminal. He should not be treated as a minor and he should be sentenced.”
Ashwini’s mother Mamta Kosta told report ers: “I was shocked after seeing the news. I have full faith in judiciary. They must have made the decision after careful consideration. However, I request the judges to understand the pain of a mother who has lost her daughter. Punishment should be given accordingly so that public can trust the judicial system.”
“I don't know what is in the law. My only request to the judges is to understand the pain of a mother who has lost her daughter. Many girls live there and such incidents should not recur. Those who commit such crimes should learn a lesson. I only request the judges to make the right decision," she said, adding that the Maharashtra govt has assured them that jus tice will be served.
Ashwini’s father, Suresh Kosta, who is still in Maharashtra, told TOI over phone: “I have not read the high court’s decision yet, so I cannot say anything about it now. Chief minister Eknath Shinde had called us to discuss the issue. He has taken the matter very seriously and assured us appropriate action."
Ashwini and Anish were run over by a Porsche allegedly driven by a drunken 17-year-old in Pune’s Yerwada at 2.30am on May 19.
Anish’s uncle Surya Awadhiya, who lives in Pali town of MP’s Umaria district, said, “Anish’s father OP Awadhia was called by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde. I can talk about his discussions with the CM and the HC decision only when my brother returns.”
